WHY GUT HEALTH IS IMPORTANT?

Your gut is actually your second brain.  Long before modern science could come to a consensus today that gut health is your health reservoir, Ayurveda identified GUT or your digestive system as the soil for your good health. If you enrich the soil, you enrich your health.

Our gut is a reservoir of 300 to 500 different species of good bacteria, also known as ‘GUT MICROBIOME’. These good bacteria not only helps in keeping your gut healthy but also helps in keeping the bad bacteria at bay.

Presence of good bacteria in your gut can help combat weight issues, inflammation, improves insulin sensitivity hence better blood sugar control, releases happy hormone like serotonin, enhance your immune system, fight depression, autoimmune conditions, skin conditions like psoriasis, eczema, acne, skin pigmentation and so much more.

Let’s talk about what are the signs of Unhealthy Gut.

  1. Stomach Signals:

Acidity, constipation, bloating, heartburn, reflux after eating food, feeling of heaviness in your GUT. These are all signs of indigestion indicating that your gut is unable to digest and eliminate the waste to its maximum capacity. What happens is if these symptoms are continuous then it can just be the beginning and progress to gut imbalance. The loss of gut microbiome and leaky gut can lead to initiation of inflammation. This inflammation can then lead to the beginning of illness.

  1. Insulin Resistance:

Insulin is a metabolic hormone which keeps your blood sugar under control. Unhealthy gut can lead to insulin resistance or poor insulin sensitivity. Huge consumption of sugar rich food or high fructose corn syrup (always check for this ingredient on your food packet) can impair your gut health by increasing inflammation. So you see sugar can be not just addictive but also cause a decrease in good gut bacteria.

  1. Obesity:

Weight gain or loss either can be a result of unhealthy metabolism which is due to your unhealthy gut. Also as mentioned above insulin sensitivity decreases if your gut is unhealthy which is primarily a cause for inflammation and hence weight gain. You need to understand that your weight is not just what you eat it’s what you absorb, digest and how that affects your hormones.

  1. Frequent sugar cravings:

This is so tough!! We often know sugar is bad but actually sugar is addictive. Sugar not only depresses your metabolism but also upsets your gut bacteria. This inturn affects your blood sugar levels and hence more cravings!! So it’s one vicious cycle.

  1. Got Skin Issues?

Your skin, which is the largest organ of your body, represents your inner metabolism. Bad Gut Health: Imbalance gut bacteria or leaky gut- is one of the prime causes of skin issues like acne, eczema, psoriasis. Next time don’t just paint your skin with different skin products..look within.

  1. Auto-Immune Conditions:

An unhealthy gut can increase the inflammation and alter the immune system. Hypothyroidism, hashimotos thyroiditis, celiac disease, autism are all linked to your gut health

  1. Food Allergies??

If you are someone with food allergies , it’s just your body telling you that your gut is unhealthy. The best thing to do is eat gut friendly food and uplift your gut health. A clean blood circulation and intact gut health can eventually reduce your allergies.

Medicines prescribed to reduce allergies are of no use if you do not work upon your GUT!!

TAKE AWAY: If you are someone struggling with any disease condition , struggling with weight, skin issues, food allergies or just bloating, it’s very important to understand what food might suit you and can help to decrease your gut symptoms. Taking care of your GUT is important before you even check your weight on a weighing scale.

Remember your gut is your soil for good health.
